ORGAN TRANSPLANT IN INDIA
Organ transplant in India
India has some of the busiest living donor transplant programmes in the world. Transplants for international patients follow strict legal rules. We explain them clearly and get your case reviewed by experienced transplant teams in Delhi NCR.
Medical recommendations come from your qualified treating clinicians.
Why patients choose India for a transplant
Transplant centres in Delhi NCR perform large numbers of living donor kidney and liver transplants and bone marrow transplants every year, including for patients from Africa and the Middle East. Experienced teams, shorter waits and lower costs are the main reasons patients travel.
A transplant is a long journey, usually one to three months in India, and needs careful planning for both patient and donor. We help you prepare the documents and plan your stay from the start.

Transplants and related treatment
Transplant teams in India offer:
- Living donor kidney transplant, including blood-group incompatible transplants
- Living donor liver transplant
- Bone marrow (stem cell) transplant: autologous, matched sibling, unrelated and half-matched (haploidentical)
- Bone marrow transplant for thalassemia and sickle cell disease
- Dialysis while you prepare for a kidney transplant
- Evaluation of the patient and donor before surgery
Choosing a transplant hospital
Ask how many transplants of your type the centre performs each year, its experience with international patients and donors, and how long-term follow-up will work from home.
Donor rules for international patients
India’s Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act governs every organ transplant. For foreign nationals, the living donor is normally a close relative, and the hospital’s authorisation committee checks the relationship and documents before approving the transplant. Your embassy or government must also provide certain documents.
Orvica never assists with paid organ donation. Bone marrow transplants follow different rules: donors can be relatives or matched unrelated donors.
How Orvica helps
We share your reports, with your consent, with suitable transplant teams in Delhi NCR and send you their opinion, a proposed treatment plan and a written estimate. If you would like to speak to the specialist first, we arrange a video consultation on request. Once you choose, we arrange your medical visa letter, free airport pickup and drop, interpreters if needed and help finding accommodation near the hospital.
Reports to send for a free case review
Your coordinator confirms the exact list after your enquiry. Usually it includes:
- Diagnosis and recent reports from your specialist
- Blood group and recent blood tests for you and your donor
- Scans such as ultrasound or CT
- Proof of relationship with your donor
Costs and length of stay
Costs depend on the transplant type, your donor and your stay. A kidney transplant usually needs four to six weeks in India; a liver or allogeneic bone marrow transplant around two to three months. See our transplant cost guides for details. For organ transplants, the living donor is normally a close relative, and the hospital's authorisation committee must approve. Orvica never assists with paid organ donation.
